In the "Our Philosophy" section, I begin with, "I have been blessed…" because I truly have been blessed. I don't intend to impose my faith on anyone, but I am happy to share my story if you are interested.
This business has been a huge success and blessing to myself and the wonderful people I am privileged to work with. What you probably do not know is that at least part of our beginnings as a company were born from considerable pain. The first 20+ years of my career were working in corporate positions. I had a great career and am certainly not here to belittle corporate America. Lord knows I couldn't do what we do today without that experience.
However, in the turmoil that can take place in all companies, big and small, I found myself in the midst of a restructuring that shifted the chess pieces around in my world to the point that I hated going to work and was having trouble dealing with it. I cannot say that I started Moving Parts to escape my pain, but this idea kept worming its way into my thoughts. That idea is what you now know as Moving Parts L.L.C.
In retrospect, I am sure that pain was God's way of telling me, "David, you have a Y in the road coming up; don't miss your turn." Until then, I had a great career and was making great money, so the path of least resistance would have been to soldier on through that rough patch. But the pain was God applying brakes to that path so I could see the "turn in the road" and navigate it.
I feel grateful that God has blessed me with wonderful people who support and assist us in our travels. I get to work with some of the finest human beings anyone could ever work with. I have also been blessed with a dear friend, my business and life coach, Mark. We lost Mark to cancer in 2022. Cancer sucks! But we have been blessed by his guidance and steady, Christian hand. I told his wife recently that I wished he was around to see what has become of this little company he has helped pilot, but I am sure he is watching and smiling!
I also believe that God doesn't just bless us, but like the story of the talents in the Bible, he entrusts us with his riches, not to horde, but to bless others and do his work on this earth. That is also why we give well over 10% of what we make back: to bring glory to Him and help those in need.
Part of our commitment to giving back is our work with a fine company called Edesia Nutrition. Edesia is a remarkable story. You should visit their website to read more about them. They are a 501c3 that, in their own words, has a single goal: ending malnutrition. They came to us asking for help managing their sizable commodity portfolio (commodities = food) but made it clear they simply didn't have the budget to pay us much. I recall reading something in the Good Book about feeding the hungry, so we agreed to help! Our payment is knowing we are using the skills God has blessed us with to do His work here on this earth.
